Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, Metro make a claim that Everton fans are only too happy to hear.
After only just seeing Leighton Baines pen a new long-term deal at the club, it seems one of their brightest young stars, Ross Barkley is set to follow suit.
The young starlet is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League at the minute, and of course, as our punters note, he is only set to get better as he matures and gets more experience with age.
Now it seems that this further experience will come under Roberto Martinez at Everton, with Barkley set to commit to a deal that will tie him to the Toffees until 2018 at the earliest.
Chelsea and Manchester United have both been keen on the player, and Jose Mourinho is thought to be particularly keen on the hotshot.
As our landlord notes before he pours another pint, the fact of the matter is that Barkley needs guaranteed playing time, he trusts Everton and new manager Roberto Martinez and feels the club are going somewhere.
The new deal will also increase his wages – which is never something to be turned down, and the fact that he will now net considerably more than his previous £15,000 per week won’t have hurt matters!
Will Barkley pen the new deal? Let us know your thoughts below.
