Chelsea up the ante as Blues look to seal deal for midfielder, Conte is a big fan

For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, there is a desperate need for homegrown talent at Stamford Bridge…

At present, with the Blues placing such a focus on loaning out young talent, there is a real shortage of homegrown players, and this is something that Antonio Conte must look to resolve.

Fortunately, it appears as though the Italian is desperate to sign a player that would not only be a top signing for the club, but also one that would help to improve that quota.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea have made a £35 million bid for Arsenal man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as Antonio Conte tries once again to land his man. It is said that the Blues had previously offered £25 million, but they have now upped the ante in a desperate attempt to get the midfielder.

A move across London would certainly be a controversial one, but it could be a desirable situation for all parties. Chelsea would, of course, get their man, whilst Chamberlain would likely get more game time at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal will obviously not want to sell to a rival team, but with Chelsea willing to offer so much for a player that has just a year left on his current contract, they could find it tough to turn down.

A deal remains some way off, but the Chelsea fans in the pub are feeling optimistic.

Landlord’s Verdict

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of the Premier League’s most underrated players. Over the last year or so he has impressed whenever he has played, but competition for places has meant that he has not been much of a regular.

At Chelsea, a lack of depth means that the Englishman will be a regular for the Blues, and this could appeal to him.

He is very versatile and is able to play at wing-back and in the attack, and so Conte would certainly fit him in somewhere.
