Chelsea veteran closing in on Stamford Bridge exit

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting January to be a very busy month for Antonio Conte…

Of course, the Blues are flying in the Premier League – but given Chelsea’s poor season last year, it appeared essential that Conte would look to improve his side ahead of a busy second half of the season.

However, in reality, there has been far more of a focus on departing players over the last few weeks – with the likes of John Obi Mikel, Patrick Bamford and Oscar all leaving SW6 over the course of the month – and it would appear as though they won’t be the only first-team players to leave Chelsea.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea veteran Branislav Ivanovic is reportedly ‘close’ to completing a Chelsea exit this month – with a 3-and-a-half year deal at Zenit on the cards for the Serbian.

A decision on his future is reportedly set to be made today (Monday), with Chelsea happy to let the defender leave should he want to.

His departure would close the door on a legendary career at Stamford Bridge, with the defender cementing his Chelsea legacy with 9 impressive years in English football.

Though Ivanovic has fallen out of favour this season, he remained a consistent and impressive member of the Chelsea first team for much of his career, with unstoppable performances in the Premier League and Champions League proving vital as Chelsea won a plethora of trophies with Ivanovic in the side.

Whilst he hasn’t left on a high as he might have hoped, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are unanimous in their love for the defender – with many touting him as a Chelsea legend.

Chelsea fans – share your memories of Ivanovic below!
