Chelsea weighing up January bid for 5ft 11 Premier League man

The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern aren’t quite convinced on this one…

Chelsea’s defensive frailties have been well documented this season, with the Blues slipping to 3 consecutive Premier League games without a win – conceding at least 2 goals in each.

As a result, it is unsurprising that Blues boss Antonio Conte is seemingly ready to splash the cash and invest in improving the weakest area of his Chelsea squad.

Over the summer, the Sun linked the Blues with a £20m move for Tottenham defender Ben Davies, and whilst that move did not come to pass – Antonio Conte is reportedly yet to give up on the Welshman.

According to ESPN, as per sources close to Chelsea, the Blues are weighing up a move for Davies in January – with Conte growing tired of Chelsea’s defensive mishaps.

Whilst the move is baffling the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern – our landlord thinks the deal makes a lot of sense.

Between Cahill and Ivanovic’s lack of form, Chelsea’s lack of homegrown defenders and lack of defensive depth – Ben Davies could be the perfect fit.

He is also versatile, able to play at left back or as part of a 3 man defence – as he did with Wales at the 2016 European Championship.

The Tottenham fans in the Tavern aren’t too sure about this one either. Davies doesn’t get much game time ahead of Danny Rose – but Tottenham require that strength in depth if they want to be successful this year.

A 5 man defence of Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma, John Terry, Ben Davies and Marcos Alonso is good enough to challenge for the title this season, according to our landlord.

The January transfer window is already shaping up well…
