Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool battle for former Arsenal captain unhappy at Euro giants

Thomas Vermaelen

A familiar name has arisen once more in the Transfer Tavern, following reports from Spain that former Arsenal captainThomas Vermaelen is a target for a number of English sides.

Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham fans have eagerly been reading reports from Fichajes as they queue up for their Monday Night Blues drinks that their clubs are eyeing a move to bring the Belgian back to England.

He left the Gunners in the summer of 2014 in order to join the Blaugrana, though a series of injuries have seriously undermined his attempts to break into their first-team.

Despite the defensive problems plaguing the Catalan titans recently, the former Ajax star has been unable to breach their at-times-leaky back four.

Barca are reportedly open to the idea of a sale and despite seeing his stock plummet somewhat recently, Vermaelen was regarded as one of the top centre-backs in the league before he left.

Able to cover at both centre-half and left-back, the 30-year old could prove to be a versatile option boasting a wealth of Premier League experience.

Would you love to see Vermalen back in the Premier League at your side? Or have Barca ruined him?
