Chelsea's season has gone from looking hugely positive to something of a nightmare it seems, with internal player wars and off field distractions affecting performances on the pitch.

Manager Mauro Sarri had looked like being the man to bring success back to the club, but in recent months and weeks he has seen his grip on the team slip, and it looks like the Blues might already be preparing for life after Sarri come the summer.

However, for once, there will be a big limitation on the club this time round with the Blues being placed under embargo for the next two transfer windows, something which will have a massive impact on the club going forward.

That impact can be a good thing though in that it might well give some of the players on the fringes of things at Stamford Bridge a chance to step up to the plate and prove their worth for the Blues.

We here in the Tavern think those players are indeed on the books at Chelsea, and we think that one or two of them can really step up given the chance next season.

With that, we've looked at TWO Chelsea players who could do with making the step up for the club next term...

Ethan Ampadu

In Ampadu, the Blues have one of the finest young talents in the country on their hands, and the lack of signings could be the Welshman's big chance.

Ampadu has already impressed in his fleeting performances so far, and if he can keep developing and get consistent performances under his belt then Chelsea will have a fine player on their hands.

Capable in both midfield and defence, Ampadu is going to be a star and this opening is a huge chance for him to grasp.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

The young winger has been in the headlines already owing to his protracted move to Bayern Munich, but he remains a Chelsea player for now, which is good news for the Blues.

Hudson-Odoi is a fine player on his day and still in his teens, has plenty of time to develop and make his mark on the first team.

If he can knuckle down and win his place in the first team, then Chelsea will be getting one of the finest wingers in the country.
