Chelsea’s plans for next season under Antonio Conte may just have hit a bump in the road, with the fans in the Transfer Tavern being made aware of the latest information in a drawn-out saga.
The Evening Standard states Andreas Christensen will see out the remainder of his two-year loan with Borussia Monchengladbach, despite Chelsea’s wish being to end the spell prematurely and see the 19-year-old return to west London.
Christensen is rapidly approaching the halfway mark in his 24 month spell in the Bundesliga, where he has been praised consistently for the standard of his performances. That led to speculation Chelsea could recall the teenager this summer but Gladbach’s Sporting Director Max Eberl stated he will remain with the club.
“He has developed great and a lot of clubs are interested in him, but he will definitely play for Gladbach next season,”
Chelsea’s defence has struggled this season and, with John Terry looking increasingly likely to depart over the summer, the Blues need to bolster their ranks in the close-season. Unfortunately for them, bringing Christensen back isn’t an option.
