The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have very high hopes for some of their young players…
However, in recent years, clearly talented players have fallen by the wayside, with figures like Josh McEachran and more recently Lucas Piazon struggling to make it at Stamford Bridge.
This is something that the Blues are said to be looking to remedy going forward, and according to the Mirror, they may be about to get tough on the clubs that look to secure loan moves for their young players. The Mirror are reporting that Chelsea will only allow players to leave on loan if they are given first team assurances going forward, with Chelsea looking to avoid repeating the past under Antonio Conte.
Josh McEachran is, of course, probably the most high-profile failure of the loan system, with the Englishman looking destined to be a star at 17-years-old. However, a few poor years away from the club did him no favours, and when combined with managerial change and on-field success, he never really had a chance.
Now is an important time for Chelsea to take their system seriously, with their most talented crop of players in years looking for a chance in the first team. With young stars like Lewis Baker, Tammy Abraham and Kasey Palmer all clearly impressive, a few more years of regular game time could be the making of them.
