Chelsea and Liverpool both enjoyed differing fortunes in the summer transfer window, with the Blues adding the big money signing of Alvaro Morata, while Liverpool signed Mo Salah as their marquee capture.
Chelsea have started the season the better of the two, and while Salah has impressed, Liverpool look short of options in certain areas of the pitch and look like once again falling short of challenging for the Premier League title.
However, our landlord here at the Tavern thinks that Liverpool have pipped Chelsea to a signing who could make all the difference for Jurgen Klopp over the next few seasons.
That player? Next summer’s big money Anfield signing, midfielder Naby Keita.
The all action central midfield ace has been a revelation for his club RB Leipzig this term, and was equally as impressive last time out as he stood out as one of the best players in the Bundesliga.
This form captured the attention of Liverpool and Klopp, and the German has paid big money to secure his signing next summer, something which could be a bitter blow for Conte’s Chelsea.
While the Blues did sign Tiemoune Bakayoko last summer, he has so far looked short of the desired quality to push them to the next level, while Keita looks a sure thing to be a hit when he finally lands in the Premier League.
With Nemanja Matic sold, and Bakayoko strugglin, Chelsea look light in the middle and, missing out on Keita could well be something they live to regret as the seasons progress in the coming years.
Liverpool and Chelsea fans, what do you think? Will Keita be a success? Let us know in the comments!Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
