It has become pretty clear that Willian has himself some admirers over in Spain.
According to Sky Sports, after missing out on the Brazilian last summer, Barcelona have once again made a bid (£35m) for his services, which has since been rejected by Chelsea. Atletico Madrid are also said to have had a proposal rebuffed.
It is easy to understand any frustration some Chelsea supporters may have with their club’s apparent decision not to accept either bid. He managed to produce just three Premier League goals last season and six the season before that, so he hasn’t exactly had a huge impact on proceedings at Stamford Bridge.
But with Eden Hazard having joined Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid and a transfer ban enforced, did the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have any other choice?
Sell the Brazil international now and the Blues could easily head into the next campaign with just two fit wide players in Christian Pulisic and Pedro.
Callum Hudson-Odoi, of course, has not played any football since injuring his Achilles back in April and no return date has been set.
How have Chelsea managed to find themselves in this situation? Like a lot of questions, that is for Roman Abramovich and co to answer. But what is done is done, meaning the Blues must now make do with what they have got and keep hold of the likes of Willian for at least another year as they aren’t in a position to sell.
