Willian, Tammy Abraham and Reece James are all thought to be closing in on new Chelsea deals, according to a report by The Times.
Frank Lampard is thought to have turned his attention to renewing the player’s contracts at Stamford Bridge following their transfer embargo and the three are thought to be next in line for new agreements.
Willian is expected to be handed a two-year extension after 12 months of negotiations, whereas Abraham and James’ are not disclosed.
With the transfer ban in place at Chelsea, all three men appear to be individuals that Lampard is going to be leaning on for the upcoming campaign.
Willian is an experienced campaigner and will likely be a figure within the squad that will be looked at to help lead the side in Premier League and Champions League competition.
The 30-year-old has come in for some scathing criticism for his inconsistent performances over the years – something his former team-mate and new manager highlighted back in 2018 (The Metro). Indeed, his stats by WhoScored suggest there is still room for improvement as well.
He managed to get just three goals and six assists in his 32 Premier League appearances last season under Maurizio Sarri, but he also averaged 1.9 shots per game, 2.5 key passes and 1.2 dribbles with a passing success rate of 85.7%.
Abraham and James also appear to be able to get their chance of pushing into the first-team this season after impressive individual campaigns in the Championship last year.
The 21-year-old forward, who is expected to battle Olivier Giroud for the main role after being handed the number nine shirt, bagged 26 goals for Aston Villa in his 42 appearances (Transfermarkt) as he successfully helped them to win promotion to the top-flight at the second time of asking via the play-offs.
James was in stellar form for Wigan Athletic last season and scooped a trio of awards at the end of the season party with the Latics and has subsequently been the subject of significant interest with The Times claiming Chelsea have already rejected five loan bids from Premier League outfits for him this summer, suggesting he has a role to play when he is available for selection.
With the transfer ban in place at Chelsea, it is hardly a surprise that they have moved quickly to try and tie down one of their most experienced men in Willian and some of their most exciting prospects in Abraham and James.
This season could be the perfect opportunity for all three men to prove that they belong in Lampard’s team moving forward and new deals would suggest that they will all be given the opportunity to impress as the campaign gets underway.
