Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are not sure what to make of Jose Mourinho’s latest plans in the transfer market, as reported by the Express.
The Chelsea boss is said to have set his sights on Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and will look to tempt him to Stamford Bridge by sending Petr Cech in the opposite direction.
Cech finds his place as Blues number one under genuine threat for the first time in his ten-year spell with the Blues, with Mourinho recalling Belgian international Thibaut Courtois from a three-year loan spell with Atletico Madrid.
However, Real Madrid already have Iker Casillas, Diego Lopez and new Costa Rican signing Keylor Navas on the books, so any legitimate interest in Cech from the European champions seems unlikely.
Twenty-one-year-old Varane is reportedly unhappy with his wages at the Bernabeu and would be interested in a move to England, especially to work with Mourinho who gave him his big break in the Real Madrid first team.
Mourinho has insisted he will not be making any more signings this summer but will attempt to open negotiations with Real regarding Cech and Varane before the window closes on September 1st.
