Chelsea willing to sell to make space for transfer target

rooney.jpgThe Independent report that Chelsea want to sign Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney this summer and are prepared to sell either Fernando Torres or Demba Ba to make space for the striker.

New Manchester United manager David Moyes has tried to put off potential suitors by announcing that Rooney will not be sold during the current transfer window but that hasn’t dissuaded the Blues that the signing won’t happen.

Chelsea believe the Red Devils will sell Rooney this pre-season and do not want to miss the opportunity to sign the supremely talented England international who only has two years left on his current deal at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of Rooney and is keen to recruit him to be part of new look Chelsea squad at the expense of current strikers Fernando Torres or January transfer window acquisition Demba Ba.

Rooney, 27, is reportedly unhappy with life at Old Trafford and has even asked for a transfer at the end of last season following a disagreement with then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson. However he could be set for a new start under Moyes whom he worked with at Everton and the former Toffees manager confirmed that their relationship was strong.

He said: “The club has already stated that Wayne is staying and is not for sale. I have met Wayne two, three, four times and he’s here every day. I have of course met him long before on many occasions.

“There has been a lot said about Wayne and myself over the years but we have a really good relationship. I have got him back to Goodison Park several times over the last few years.

“We have stated he is not for sale and I am going to try to get the best Wayne Rooney that I possibly can.”

Should Chelsea try to lure Rooney to Stamford Bridge and will United sell to a direct rival? Let us know your thoughts below.
