The Daily Mail have a rather interesting claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Chelsea are ready to make a bid for Wayne Rooney that Manchester United boss David Moyes cannot refuse.
As one of our punters quips, it is getting a bit ridiculous the amount of speculation and constant rumours over the player’s future and the cold hard facts seem to be as follows – Chelsea want Rooney and are willing to pay £30 million for him.
David Moyes does not want to sell to an English club but sees Rooney as his second choice forward as the season approaches.
Rooney himself wants to leave the club, be a first choice striker and make a move to Chelsea to link up with Jose Mourinho. It is evident that the player does not want to make a move abroad, despite overtures from Paris Saint-Germain that were silenced by Laurent Blanc recently.
Chelsea are now willing to make a second bid for Rooney that will total £30 million but with Mourinho fully aware that neither Fernando Torres or Demba Ba are the right choice to lead his line – he has even admitted that he could well promote Romelu Lukaku.
Mourinho of course has already upped the mind games with Moyes by attempting to move Chelsea’s game against Aston Villa to before the match at Old Trafford meaning a victory for the Blues there could see his men go six points clear two weeks into the season.
Will Moyes and Manchester United give in and sell Rooney to title rivals Chelsea this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
