Here at the Football Transfer Tavern, Chelsea fans are looking up with interest at the claim from Metro who note the club have seen another bid for Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy rejected.
Jose Mourinho is currently in need of a back-up keeper and has seen both Ross Turnbull and Henrique Hillario depart this summer.
The manager is well aware that he needs a top keeper to provide back up for Petr Cech – who as we can all remember suffered a serious injury during Mourinho’s first spell in charge of the club.
Young Belgian star Thibaut Courtois has also been sent out on loan back to Atletico Madrid to gain another season on first team football and Chelsea will have to stump up at least double the initial £5 million that they bid for Ruddy.
The Canaries are reluctant to let the 26-year-old go and should their hand be forced, will hold out for as much money as Chelsea can pay – and we all know they are able to offer a great deal. Former Cambridge United man Ruddy himself is understandably worried about his potential first team chances at Stamford Bridge and knows that even if he managed to oust Cech from a starting role, would then have to face the returning Courtois the season after.
Will Chelsea eventually get their way and land Ruddy as their back-up choice this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
