Talking Tactics: Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea XI can batter lowly Huddersfield Town today

Chelsea will be desperate to get over the disappointment of their Community Shield defeat against Manchester City, as they take on Huddersfield on the opening day of the Premier League campaign.

The Blues could find themselves challenging for the title in the new campaign if they can manage to ensure consistency and keep players fit. Indeed, the London club have a very strong squad and a couple of youngsters coming up through the ranks, so things are looking very positive.

Maurizio Sarri’s first Premier League game will be against Huddersfield as the Blues travel to the John Smith’s Stadium. The Terriers have the ability to cause an upset after performing to a high standard in the last campaign and have drafted a number of players in this summer, so it won’t be easy.

Therefore, having taken Sarri’s selections from Chelsea’s pre-season games and World Cup players into consideration, we’ve come up with a team that we think the Italian could line up with against Huddersfield.

Have a look below to see the entire potential team in FULL…

CHELSEA’S POTENTIAL TEAM VS HUDDERSFIELD

We’ve gone with a 4-3-3 formation, as that is the formation that served Chelsea well at times in the last campaign and Sarri has made use of it during pre-season. The Blues love to keep hold of the ball in the middle of midfield, but also look to get it out wide and attack the opposition’s defenders, with a target man at the pinnacle of the attack.

Thibaut Courtois’ future has been surrounded with doubt, but he should line up in-between the sticks for the Blues.

In defence, the Blues will look to keep the opposition at bay by making use of a rather strong defensive pairing in the form of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger. Meanwhile, Cesar Azpilicueta will resume on the right, with the forever-reliable Marcos Alonso on the other flank.

Jorginho will be looking to continue his fine form in a Chelsea shirt, but the start of the new Premier League campaign certainly offers a different challenge. The assist master Cesc Fabregas should be one of the first names on the team sheet, while Ross Barkley will be looking to impress in what could be a rare Premier League start.

The Blues’ front line will consist of Pedro, Alvaro Morata and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Eden Hazard only returned to training on Monday so he won’t have had much preparation, which is why the impressive Hudson-Odoi will start.
