Chelsea’s transfer window has left many punters in the Transfer Tavern scratching their heads, with the majority failing to understand why on earth the Blues approved selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.
Antonio Conte has been very clear with his belief that his defending Premier League champions need further additions before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month and the midfield is proving to be a major problem.
An injury held by Tiemoue Bakayoko has meant the summer-signing from Monaco has been unable to make his debut so far and Cesc Fabregas’ red card during Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Burnley has left the Blues with major issues ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Conte’s side lack the depth in midfield to compete both domestically and on the European stage this season, so the opportunity of signing an experienced midfielder cannot be passed by- especially as a deal has seemingly landed on their plate.
Reports from France, cited by Metro, indicate French giants Paris Saint-Germain are keen to offload Grzegorz Krychowiak to the West London side as they seek to balance their books following the world-record capture of Neymar.
Unai Emery’s side initially rebuffed Chelsea’s advances for the Polish international last month but a deal is back on the cards for the 27-year-old who struggled to establish himself in the French capital following a move last summer from Sevilla.
Krychowiak’s experience would be extremely beneficial to Chelsea, particularly as they need capable players ready to step-in should situations like their current problems occur again further down the line and Krychowiak wouldn’t be too expensive.
Signed for £30m last summer, PSG would likely expect a loss on the figure they bought the player for and Conte needs to make a move sooner rather than later.
