According to the Daily Star, Roberto Mancini is keeping a close eye on Napoli hitman Edison Cavani and could make a £30 million move for the striker.
The Uruguayan has proved to be the difference in both ties with the Etihad club, scoring 3 goals in the two matches. This has led to Roberto Mancini making the 24-year-old his primary target to replace AWOL Argentine star Carlos Tevez.
According to Starsport, they can reveal that City have opened preliminary talks with Cavani’s agent in the hope of luring his client to move to the Etihad stadium this forthcoming January transfer window. It would be very unlikely for a move to happen this Januaryas the Uruguayan sharpshooter would be cup-tied if City did end up progressing. If Napoli were the side to qualify why would he want to leave Champions League football?
Cavani’s two goals over City on Tuesday may well have dented City’s hopes of qualifying through to the Champions League knockout stages. Cavani is growing in stature and with every goal he continues to score his price value will increase.
Napoli currently value the 24-year-old at £40 million and City boss Roberto Mancini will be hoping the money raised from selling troublemaker Carlos Tevez will help fund the purchase of Cavani. Since moving to the Azzurri from Palermo in 2010 he has scored 30 goals in 44 appearances for the club. £14 million-what a bargain! It’s his prolific goalscoring record that has made him one of Europe’s most deadly strikers which have got the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and A.C Milan licking their lips in anticipation.
While Mancini is determined to get his man, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has warned high-spending City: If you want my stars, you better have your money ready.
He said: “If Sheikh Mansour (owner) wants to buy one of our jewels, he should pay much more than he has already spent at City.”
