Willian’s impressive performance against Champions League holders Chelsea last week, has increased speculation of a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs. Shakhtar have been quick to establish that the talented Brazilian won’t leave for anything less than £28million, although its believed the sum could be reduced next Summer.
Inter Milan are very keen to land the 24 year old, after flying to London to meet his representatives for discussions of a possible transfer to Italy. However it’s thought that Willian would prefer a move to England and would be more tempted by other potential suiters, such as Tottenham and Chelsea. With a Champions league trophy and a host of Brazilian players including Luiz, Oscar and Ramirez, Chelsea have a very persuasive bargaining tool, and appear to be front runners to land Willian. Although he is known to be a keen admirer of Andre Villas-Boas and would welcome the opportunity to join him at club level.
As one Europe’s hottest prospects, Willian is not short of options and while he remains focussed on Shakhtar, he will certainly move on when he receives the right offer. What Chelsea can’t promise is regular first team football, as they already have an abundance of World-class attacking midfielders. Ideally they need a striker as cover, or to partner Torres, although Willian would provide them with goals from midfield they are missing from Frank Lampard.
Tottenham also predominantly need a striker to partner the on-fire Jermain Defoe, with Adebayor yet to make an impact this season. Despite making a steady start, Spurs are definitely missing the creativity of Modric and Van Der Vaart. With Dempsey failing to hit top form and Dembele still injured, Willian would add much-needed flair and goals to the Tottenham midfield. It would also give their Champions league qualification hopes a major boost with extremely tough competition this season.
