Chelsea were held to a goalless draw against West Ham United to end their perfect record in the Premier League.
The Blues had made a blistering start to life under Maurizio Sarri, winning all five of their opening Premier League fixtures. On the other hand, West Ham have made a dreadful start to Manuel Pellegrini’s reign but finally secured their first win of the season against Everton last week. Despite creating a host of chances, Chelsea were unable to break the deadlock.
Eden Hazard leads the Premier League scoring charts with five goals but Chelsea’s strikers, Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud, have just one goal between them this season. With Liverpool’s attackers firing on all cylinders, Sarri will be cautious of his lack of firepower. Bolstering Chelsea’s forward line in the January transfer window could be the only option.
One man they should target is Manchester United forward – Alexis Sanchez. Valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, the Chilean joined the Red Devils in January following weeks of speculation. The former Barcelona winger headed for Old Trafford with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading in the other direction.
His move to Manchester has not gone to plan with Sanchez managing just three goals for his new side. Indeed, his style of play seemingly does not fit Mourinho’s defensive tactics which has no doubt hindered his ability to find the back of the net. His form could tempt United into a sale in the January transfer window.
In Sarri’s free-flowing attacking system, Sanchez could flourish. Having the creative license to attack could help the Chile international rediscover the form he showed at Arsenal where he was one of the most dangerous players in the division.
While he time at United has been dreadful, moving to Stamford Bridge could bring the best out of the 29-year-old.
