There’s been an awful lot of change for the Chelsea fans to get their heads around this summer, though it did take a while.
The likes of Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Tiémoué Bakayoko have all arrived to aid Antonio Conte’s cause in west London, much to the delight of the Blues in the bar.
Still, the recent departure of two-time title winner Nemanja Matic to Manchester United has our punters hoping the club continue to splash the cash in order to strengthen the squad ahead of a much busier campaign next term.
Indeed, that’s because the Serbian bruiser may not be the only big name exit. Diego Costa has strongly been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer and reports from Marca have shed some more light on the matter.
They’ve revealed the Spaniard is not due to return to training with the rest of the squad on August 1st, following a few days off for his team-mates after their pre-season tour. Neither he or Conte reportedly want to face the awkward situation of his return to Cobham and the La Roja star will apparently be given extra time off to seal a move away.
A return to Atletico Madrid has been touted for the 28-year-old for much of his time with the Blues, though both the player and Roman Abramovich are understood to be willing to look elsewhere, should Los Rojiblancos not hurry a move along.
It’s a great shame that Costa’s exit looks like being on bad terms. While he’s had his problems on these shores, few would doubt his importance to the two title wins he’s enjoyed in SW6, as well as his popularity with the fans.
So, to see him hurried out the exit door is a sad situation, especially considering it remains to be seen if compatriot Alvaro Morata can adequately replace him.
