Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has added French coach Laurent Blanc to the shortlist of managers to replace Andre Villas Boas, report our friends at The Daily Mail.
The former French centre-back’s contract is up for renewal following Euro 2012 and Abramovich has identified him as the man to take over from interim boss Roberto di Matteo in the summer. Blanc enjoyed a successful spell in charge with Bordeaux with whom he won the French title in 2008-09. Since taking over from the controversial Raymond Domenech following France’s disastrous 2010 World Cup campaign.
Chelsea have also been heavily linked with Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola but with the club unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League, it is unlikely that the Spanish supremo would fancy leaving Barca for the Europa League.
Blanc would be a more likely option and with his contract up, Abramovich wouldn’t face the same hefty compensation payout as he had for Villas Boas.
