As the new Premier League season creeps up on the punters in the Transfer Tavern, optimism is rife amongst the drinkers. Well, other than the Arsenal supporting ones.
With Arsene Wenger continually rocked by defensive injuries and a lack of firepower, reports yesterday claiming the club were lining up a £29m deal PLUS Olivier Giroud for Mauro Icardi came as music to the ears of the Gunners.
However, indicative of their luck in the transfer market in recent years, they look increasingly farfetched.
That’s because, according to the Daily Star, Chelsea look primed to move in on the Inter Milan superstar as their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku fades away.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is said to view the Nerazzurri skipper as an ideal candidate to supplement Diego Costa, should the Spaniard fail to perform again this season.
The West London giants are understood to be willing to use playmaker Oscar as a makeweight in a deal to land the 23-year old.
Where would Icardi fit in better, Arsenal or Chelsea? Let us know below…
