The Gary Cahill transfer saga has taken yet another turn as Chelsea’s young starlet Josh McEachran is set to be used as bait to land the England international. The Blues are prepared to do whatever it takes to fight off Premier League competition for the signature of the 25-year-old. Cahill has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs and is expected to be sold in January with his contract due to expire in the summer.
It had been rumoured that Cahill was set to join Tottenham, but with Chelsea preparing to loan McEachran as part of the deal, it seems like Chelsea have jumped ahead of the queue in this ongoing transfer saga.
While the rumours continue to speculate no concrete offer has yet been put forward by the potential suitors. Chelsea’s defence have been susceptible at the back and have looked so uncharacteristically shaky over the last couple of weeks. They do look capable of conceding in every match, which has been a rare commdodity in past seasons. With Alex set to leave the club in January after his transfer request was accepted and compatriot David Luiz’s defensive capabilities being called into question, Cahill could be the perfect partner for Captain John Terry at the heart of their defence.
The deal would burst Harry’s January bubble as both Chelsea and Bolton have forged a good relationship in the past year. Daniel Sturridge benefited immensely from his loan move at the Reebok stadium last year and Gael Kakuta is currently on loan this season. Chelsea hope by offering a third Chelsea player in two seasons could lure Owen Coyle into accepting Chelsea’s offer.
McEachran has struggled to break into Andres-Villas-Boas’s side and could see a move to Bolton as a stepping stone to help enhance his chances of breaking into the Chelsea team in the future.
A possible move to Bolton could entice the England youngster to follow the likes of Jack Wilshire and Daniel Sturridge, especially after he has witnessed the impact it has had on them.
