Chelsea know they need to spend big this summer in order to propel themselves back into title contenders - provided of course that their FIFA appeal helps to delay their transfer ban.

Having started the season so well, all the pressure is now building on manager Maurizio Sarri as his team are falling apart.

Even with the top quality internationals Chelsea have throughout their team, it hasn't been enough for them to sustain a top-four challenge, as they currently sit just outside in sixth place.

A lot of work needs to occur and fast in the summer, or else Chelsea could slip further behind their title rivals.

First things first, their defence needs to be improved and specifically their right-back options.

Cesar Azpilicueta has played there for the majority of this season but if he moved back to centre-back and Chelsea brought Benjamin Henrichs in, they would be a lot harder to break down.

Henrichs, (who is valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt) has been a regular fixture in Monaco's back-line this season but that shouldn't stop Chelsea testing their resolve over the German.

The 22-year-old only joined the French side in the summer, moving from Bayer Leverkusen in order to sustain more regular time on the pitch.

That is exactly what he has achieved - making 26 appearances so far this season - which in that period of time has seen Henrichs claim one goal and three assists.

Not only is he equipped to play in a right-back role but Benjamin Henrichs is the definition of versatile. This season alone, Monaco have utilised him in left-back, left-midfield, right-midfield and central-midfield.

That sort of versatility isn't common but Chelsea would massively benefit from adding a player to their ranks who can do just that.

It's also worth mentioning that Cesar Azpilicueta has looked poor at right-back this term, and that's a real worry. The Blues look weak both going forward and defensively in that area of the field, and if he doesn't improve, Sarri's options must get better.
