Though this edition of the summer window proved to be rather slow at times, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been happy about their recent business.
With Alvaro Morata now on board, the Blues in the bar are eager to see Antonio Conte now fully round out his squad ahead of a much busier Champions League campaign, and to do so, he’ll need to trim some of the fat from his playing staff. With so many players returning from loans and seemingly surplus to requirements, it’s important the Italian makes some room.
So, reports from Ghana Soccer Sport have proved rather interesting today. They’ve revealed that Bundesliga side Schalke have submitted a bid for Stamford Bridge outcast Baba Rahman, who spent last season on loan with Die Königsblauen.
His stint over at the Veltins Arena was cut short by an unfortunate injury while on international duty, though the German outfit are not thought to have given up his shirt number, as they reportedly attempt to bring him back.
The Ghanian was brought to England in the summer of 2015 from Augsburg by Jose Mourinho, though has struggled to wholly convince in SW6.
Everton and AC Milan are understood to have an interest in the 23-year-old, though it seems Schalke are to draw first blood.
With Chelsea reportedly chasing the likes of Alex Sandro & Virgil van Dijk, Rahman surely has no long-term future at the club. While the player may have a lot more talent than he was able to show with the Blues, it seems life in London just won’t work out for the Ghanian.
Any sale will surely raise funds, potentially making a chase for other defenders easier as the transfer market ramps up.
