The good people at Talksport haven’t been distracted by all the noise from Buckingham Palace either, and have come up with this little gem involving a German born Turk, Liverpool and a host of other European clubs!
Borussia Dortmund are apparently on the verge of signing German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. That means that they are also on the verge of selling their current star, Nuri Sahin. The Turkish playmaker has been at Dortmund since 2005, apart from a brief loan spell at Feyenoord. He’s made 130 appearances for the German club and scored 14 goals. Now that he’s on his way out of Dortmund it’s alerted most of Europe to his talent and potential and the 22 year old is suddenly hot property.
Liverpool are the first club to be linked with Sahin. Not surprising really when you consider the rumours around Anfield that suggest both manager Kenny Dalgish and Director of Football Damien Commolli are keen to recruit in the summer. They’re not the only English club to have an interest in Sahin though. Chelsea and Manchester United are also taking a long hard look at the midfielder, as they also face the loss of several key players in August.
Meanwhile, on the continent, Sahin has been attracting some interest from his native Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich particuarly interested in him. Not to be outdone, Spain’s Real Madrid and Italy’s Juventus have all been linked with moves for the youngster in the last few months. (It’s all over the internet if you don’t believe me!)
With the cream of Europe tracking Sahin, it’s likely that he’ll cost a hell of alot more than the £100k Feyenoord reportedly paid to take him on loan in 2007. I’ve no idea really! Bidding will probably start at £5 million, and with the kind of money those clubs have to throw around it could end up anywhere.
