According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have given the green light where Juventus approach for John Obi Mikel is concerned, and they are prepared to wave him off to Italy for a fee of £15m.
The Nigerian International has certainly been a rock for the blues and has contributed with consistent and impressive displays since his controversial signing in 2006.
He has made the anchor-man role his own, and has become part of the furniture at Stamford Bridge, sitting just in front of the back four.
He has racked up 158 appearances for the Londoners, and during the start of his Premiership career he picked up Chelsea Young Player of the Year 2007, 2008.
Since the departure of Claude Makélélé, and the reoccurring injuries suffered by Michael Essien, Mikel has certainly been a vital cog in the middle of the park, helping his side lift three FA cups, the League cup and winning the Premiership during 2009-10 campaign.
He would certainly be a great purchase for the £15m price tag Chelsea are allegedly asking for, and at the age of 24 he has years left to offer. As Juve attempt to reinstate their galactico ego and step out of the shadows they have been hiding in for the past few seasons, I’m confident if they were to acquire the assistance of the Mikel, it would be nothing less than a positive move.
As the new blues gaffer begins to settle in, I’m sure there will be players being off loaded as new additions are introduced. Whether or not Mikel is part of André Villas-Boas future plans remains unknown…
I’m certain the news of his departure will consist of mixed views… Well there is mine.
We shall see…
