The People is reporting that Yann M’vila is set to become Chelsea’s new central midfielder as a replacement for the injured Michael Essien.
Chelsea were rocked weeks ago with the news that Michael Essien had been sidelined for 6-8 months with a severe knee injury. Ever since, the rumour mill has been into overdrive on the subject of who they will sign as a replacement. The last time Essien spent a substantial amount of time on the sidelines he was sorely missed and Chelsea will know they cannot hope to embark upon a successful season without him.
The latest midfielder maestro the Sarf London club have been linked with is Rennes resident midfield destroyer Yann M’vila. The 21 year old has already made over 50 league appearances in the French Ligue 1 and has received 10 caps for France thanks to Laurent Blanc’s renaissance project.
He is renowned as a deep seated midfielder with a strong tackle but has the potential to be a creative presence. The fee quoted by The People, circa €17m, would represent an absolute steal in the current market. The outlay would be significantly cheaper than the ones required to land both Wesley Sneijder or Joao Moutinho.
