Chelsea fans would you take Arjen Robben back? Because the Dutchman has recently commented saying he will not play for a club in the Europa League. Bayern Munich currently sit 3rd only a point above 4th placed Hannover 96 with 8 games to go.
The 27 year old former Blues favourite has stated in a recent interview;
“I have always said that I do not want to play in the Europa League. Bayern Munich are a team that absolutely have to play in the Champions League.”.
Comments made by Robben have left Chelsea considering a surprise move to re-sign their former wide-man. Ancelotti is preparing to rebuild his team in the summer with several high profile names set to be sold. Players such as Florent Malouda, Didier Drogba, Yuri Zhirkov and Nicolas Anelka have all been linked with moves away from Stamford bridge at the end of the season.
With that amount of attacking talent set to leave Chelsea manager Ancelotti knows reinforcements will be needed. With that in mind a move for Robben may be on the cards, with a reported £30 million quoted as the figure Bayern would accept.
Abramovich is ready to splash the cash again this summer but would it be worthwhile to sign a player of 27 years old? Surely the whole point of Chelsea releasing their pensioners is to make way for upcoming youngsters? The Dutchman did have a successful time in London however, picking up two Premiership winners medals as well as being part of the squad that won both the Carling and FA Cup.
The winger is injury prone however and suffered quite a few setbacks during his time at Chelsea. An expensive acquisition, the winger would need to play regularly to justify his fee. Despite these issues though, there is no doubting his talent. Robben has been rejuvenated at Bayern and was a key player in their double domestic triumph last season. This transfer rumour looks set to divide opinion and only in the summer will we know whether Robben will be returning in blue.
