Chelsea and Man City ready to commence blockbuster £48m battle for world class defender

With Euro 2016 in full swing, the punters in the Transfer Tavern (try) and put their club affiliations to the side and enjoy the footballing feast in France.

Having watched Italy outclass a hugely talented Belgian side, folks from up and down the country having been waxing poetic about a certain Leonardo Bonucci, whose stunning pass and solid defensive display was one of the major events of the game.

Still, that admiration has quickly erupted in an argument between the Chelsea and Manchester City fans propping up the bar this evening, following reports from Corriere Dello Sport, via Shoot.

They claim that both the Blues, soon to be managed by current Azzurri chief Antonio Conte of course, and City will commence a blockbuster €60m (around £48m) battle to land the Juventus defender this summer.

Both sides suffered defensive problems last season, with the 28-year old defender a bonafide world class option in the berth.

Is there a better central defender in the world than Bonucci?
