Teen sensation Billy Gilmour has identified Premier League icon, Cesc Fabregas, as the footballing hero he is modelling his game on via the Daily Express. Predictably loads of Blues supporters adored the 18-year-old’s open admiration of the midfield maestro.
The Scotsman enjoyed an eye-catching performance in the 2-0 victory over Premier League leaders, Liverpool, in the FA Cup on Tuesday night, earning himself the Man of the Match award and plenty of plaudits from fans and pundits alike.
According to the Express, Fabregas highlighted Gilmour’s talents when he made his first start for the senior squad during the comprehensive 7-1 win over Grimsby Town in the League Cup.
Admittedly, he still has quite some way to go before he catches up to the legendary Spanish midfielder…
Fabregas made 198 appearances for the Blues, netting 22 goals and creating 57 assists. The Spaniard has enjoyed a highly decorated career, notably winning the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships with the national team, as well as two Premier League titles, one Europa League and two FA Cups before leaving Stamford Bridge to join French side Monaco in 2019 (Transfermarkt).
Naturally, lots of Chelsea fans have been posting their reactions to Gilmour’s post-match comments, with one supporter adamant that the youngster is “the magician successor.”
