Fans have been going wild after Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham picked up a double swoop at the London Football Awards on Thursday.
The Press Association’s Mark Mann-Bryans tweeted that the 22-year-old became the first man to win both young player and player of the year trophies in the history of the awards.
Several Blues supporters suggested there should be “no debate” about the decision as the youngster was the “clear winner,” with one fan adding the nominations were “well deserved.”
After lifting Aston Villa to the Premier League with 25 goals in 37 games last season, Abraham has enjoyed a lucrative spell under club legend Frank Lampard, scoring 15 goals and creating 6 assists in all competitions so far. He is currently valued at £45m (Transfermarkt).
The Blues centre-forward dedicated his awards to the Chelsea academy.
“It just goes to show all the hard work I have been doing throughout the season has been paying off. The Academy gave me a dream to chase ever since a young age. They kept me grounded.”
The England international has won four caps and scored his first goal for the national team in a 7-0 thrashing over Montenegro during the Euro 2020 qualifiers (Metro).
Abraham is currently out-of-action with an ankle injury, and with the Euros fast approaching, England manager Gareth Southgate will be hoping the young star can recover from the latest setback in time to make the tournament.
