Chelsea confident of compromise as Conte looks to close big deal

Though the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are getting tempted, it’s important for them not to get carried away by their weekend Wembley win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Indeed, the Blues in the bar were delighted to see Antonio Conte’s prove their doubters wrong against a bitter rival, though few would doubt the fact that his squad needs strengthening.

With that in mind, reports from the Daily Mirror have gone down really rather well today.

They claim the Premier League champions are closing in on a £30m move for Leicester City star, Danny Drinkwater. While they are understood to have seen a £15m offer snubbed already, the fact the player himself is reportedly anxious to push the deal along is said to have helped.

Chelsea are thought to be confident they can find a compromise over the apparent £40m fee demanded in the East Midlands, with the Foxes believed to know their player wants to go.

It’s a move that’d reunite the 27-year-old with N’Golo Kante, the central midfield partnership who helped Leicester famously win the league title during the 2015/16 campaign.

As you can imagine, our west London locals are happy about this.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Drinkwater, while not the biggest star in the world, would go some way into improving Chelsea’s squad. With Tiemoue Bakayoko impressing on his debut, the fact he could be backed up by the England international AND Cesc Fabregas hints at some enviable strength in depth.
