Chelsea fans here in the Tavern are feeling as if it’s now the end of the road for Antonio Conte, as not even a top-four place is guaranteed for the Blues.
Indeed, Stamford Bridge has become a hostile environment in Premier League games gone by, as the team’s poor performances continue to be pinned on the shoulders of manager Antonio Conte. It’s been a topsy-turvy couple of weeks for supporters at Chelsea Football Club, as Conte’s original claims of running down the remaining year or so he has left of his contract now look to be compromised. Indeed, according to Guillem Balague at Sky Sports, both Chelsea and PSG have made an approach to crown Luis Enrique as their new manager.
The former Barcelona manager was reportedly approached by intermediates who say they are calling on behalf of both Chelsea and PSG, forcing a decision that will be of great difficulty for the Spaniard with the aim to have a shot at winning everything. And, things look to be leaning towards a move to the Premier League with Chelsea being a likely option, as Enrique has been learning English for some time and has told Guillem Balague that he has a fascination with the Premier League.
Of course, the current situation surrounding Antonio Conte and his future at Stamford Bridge remains to be uncertain, as a possible sacking could come at any time for the Pensioners. However, it does appear that the Blues are very much planning for a post-Conte future, as Luis Enrique is clearly being eyed up as a suitable predecessor for the Italian.
A manager that loves to enforce a passing style of play that would compliment a Chelsea team that’s based around keeping possession, and if his past is anything to go by then nine trophies in three seasons with Barcelona could see some wash up in South-West London.
Chelsea are in desperate need of a change up in the managerial department, as Antonio Conte continues to be forced out of his position by both fans and the club. Seeing a successful manager like Luis Enrique being talked about as a possible predecessor has got our local residents purring, as the thought of him bringing his tactical brilliance over from his days in Barcelona is something that excites fans.
However, with the Blues facing a stiff battle from Paris Saint-Germain for the services of the Spaniard, it certainly won’t be easy to bring him to the English capital.
