Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a busy week ahead as they seek to bolster their side.
The Sun comments that Southampton ace Cedric Soares has been spotted in West London as speculation linking the Saints defender with a move to Chelsea increases heading into the final week of the summer transfer window.
Defending champions Chelsea have reportedly offered £15m for the Portuguese defender as they look to bolster their defensive ranks, which have been heavily depleted following the exits of John Terry, Nathan Ake and others.
The 25-year-old is said to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge but Southampton are reluctant to approve a sale, as they fend off interest in three of their first-choice defenders- with Chelsea also interested in Virgil Van Dijk and Ryan Bertrand.
Chelsea are yet to make offers for that duo but that could change in the final weeks of the transfer window, although Conte is eyeing alternative targets.
If Cedric Soares wants to join Chelsea, then it will be extremely difficult for Southampton to fend-off interest in the 25-year-old. The issue though is that if one of their defenders goes, then the other two will also push for an exit and the Saints won’t have too long to find a replacement.
Southampton should sell for the right price though, as it’s not helpful to have a player at the club that doesn’t want to be there, but it won’t improve the club’s reputation as a club that seeks to keep hold of their key-players rather than sell- as they have done in mass in recent years.
