Don Hutchison was really impressed with Billy Gilmour’s performance vs Liverpool in the FA Cup and he showered the lad with praise on BBC’s Football Daily podcast.
Chelsea tallied an impressive 2-0 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup and secured their spot for the quarter-finals of the competition, eliminating Jurgen Klopp’s troops in the process.
But for Hutchison, the young midfielder Gilmour deserves a lot of praise for his brilliant display against a really strong opponent and he showered him with compliments.
Here’s what he said for BBC’s Football Daily podcast (4/3/2020): “His awareness is there. In the first 20 minutes of the game he rattled into Fabinho once or twice, he got into Liverpool’s midfield, he was putting tackles in. For 45 minutes he was flawless.”
Gilmour couldn’t really sustain that high level for the full 90 minutes, as Hutchison alludes to, but maybe that would be a bit too much to ask from an 18-year-old kid who’s trying to play against Liverpool.
But not only was he trying, but he was also succeeding as well and one key pass, two successful dribbles out of three and six duels won in total do prove that point (via SofaScore).
For such a young player to be a stand-out performer, even if it was for just one half of the game, is quite remarkable, to say the least.
