Chelsea: Fans call for Frank Lampard to name Jorginho after Brighton & Hove Albion win

Loads of Chelsea supporters have called for Frank Lampard to hand Jorginho the captain’s armband at Stamford Bridge, after the Italian enjoyed a stellar performance against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
The 27-year-old started the Blues’ latest Premier League affair in the centre of a three-man midfield unit alongside Ross Barkley and Mason Mount, and later scored their opening goal of the afternoon by converting a penalty in the 50th minute.
Mount had won the spot-kick after reacting quickly to close down Seagulls’ defender Adam Webster, when the 24-year-old’s poor touch left the Englishman desperately lunging to regain possession before the Chelsea product could look to score.
Jorginho converting the penalty to hand Chelsea the lead was the Imbituba, Brazil-born midfielder’s first league goal of the campaign and fourth in total for the West London outfit across all competitions (TransferMarkt), since making his Blues debut in the 2018 Community Shield.
The 18-cap international has now scored 14 of a possible 15 spot-kicks in his senior career, having converted five for boyhood side Hellas Verona, four of five for SSC Napoli, two for Italy and his previous two penalties for Chelsea.
As well as stretching his penalty record on Saturday, Jorginho completed 90% of his 69 attempted passes – only Fikayo Tomori attempted more for Lampard’s side – played three key balls, and held the joint-lead for interceptions with Lewis Dunk on four, per WhoScored data.
Fans have now been hailing the 27-year-old’s efforts against Brighton as Chelsea moved up to sixth place in the Premier League standings from 11th going into the weekend…
