Plenty of Chelsea fans have been left divided by rumours that the club are interested in signing Lewis Dunk from Brighton this month.
According to The Times, the Blues have asked Brighton about the player, with the south coast outfit informing them that he will cost £50m. Frank Lampard is free to bring in new names this month with FIFA’s transfer ban gone and defence could indeed prove to be the area the English coach decides to address.
Chelsea have been leaky at the back this season, conceding 29 goals in the Premier League. That record is worse than Wolves, Manchester United and Crystal Palace’s — teams they are currently above (via WhoScored).
So could Dunk perhaps add some more steel to the Blues’ backline? Some stats suggest no. For example, the 28-year-old is currently winning 2.6 aerial duels per game. In Chelsea’s squad, that is less than what Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma are all averaging, with the Frenchman recording an impressive 4.2 per game.
Whatever the case, some supporters would still welcome the Brighton man to Stamford Bridge, though there would be some opposition, as the tweets below will show…
