While it was a truly wonderful campaign for the Chelsea fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern, the fact they eventually lost the FA Cup to bitter rivals Arsenal hinted they could do with some strengthening this summer.
The Blues in the bar are absolutely delighted about life under Antonio Conte, though understand the fact they will be competing in the Champions League next season means the Italian’s resources will be further stretched.
With that in mind, reports from the Sun have gone down a real storm today. They claim the former Juventus and Italy coach fancies his chances of landing £48m ace Leonardo Bonucci this summer, following his Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.
The Juve star is also thought to have attracted interest from Manchester City, though Conte worked with the 30-year-old with both club and country, to a huge amount of success. Widely regarded as one of the best central defenders in the world, many of our west London locals believe he’d be a wonderful long-term replacement for John Terry.
Chelsea are said to be ready to offer him a whopping £115k-p/w over the course of a four-year deal, which would see the Italian rake in around £23.9m in SW6.
As you can imagine, the Blues propping up our bar would love to see Bonucci arrive over the course of this summer.
