Chelsea: Fans rave about Tomori

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori made his senior debut for the Blues against Sheffield United prior to the international break, lining up alongside Kurt Zouma in the heart of Frank Lampard’s defence.

The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Derby County, began life at the west London club as a seven-year-old and has steadily progressed through the ranks, making his Premier League bow against the Blades at Stamford Bridge just under a fortnight ago.

Having made three successful tackles and registering a pass completion rate of 95% – more than any other Chelsea player on the pitch – the Canadian-born ace impressed many with his mature performance and is expected to see an increase in game-time under Frank Lampard this season.

Some fans are now calling for Tomori to start alongside Antonio Rudiger when the German returns from injury in the coming weeks, with his fellow centre-back partner Kurt Zouma enduring a poor start to the campaign, as he was slammed by talkSPORT pundit Perry Groves last month.

Interestingly, one fan even stated that the youngster could perhaps be the next John Terry after the club’s official account paid tribute to their player’s journey from the academy to the first-team.

The Englishman, who is now assistant manager at Aston Villa, enjoyed an incredible time of things at Stamford Bridge, featuring 711 times in the first-team, as well as securing five Premier League trophies and one Champions League title, so Tomori has a long way to go if he is to follow in his footsteps.

Nevertheless, here’s what Blues supporters had to say about their rising star on Twitter…
