Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have mixed feelings about former goalkeeper and club legend, Petr Cech, given his recent drop off in form at Arsenal that has seen him sitting on 199 Premier League clean-sheets for ten games. It’s also been 16 years since the Gooners have gone ten Premier League games without a clean-sheet.
Petr Cech spent 11 years at Chelsea between 2004 and 2015 after signing for the Blues from Stade Rennais for £11.7 million. The Plzen born shot-stopper moved from east to north across the capital two and a half years ago to sign for Chelsea’s rivals, Arsenal back in the summer of 2015. Much has been made recently of Arsenal’s poor defence, with defenders Hector Bellerin and Shkodran Mustafi coming under intense scrutiny this week after two 3-0 defeats to Manchester City.
However the 35-year-old Cech may also carry a portion of the blame. Since joining Arsenal in 2015 he has conceded 109 goals in the Premier League for Wenger’s side, compare this to the 204 goals he conceded in the Premier League during his 11 year spell with Chelsea and the statistics don’t look great for the four-time golden glove winner since he became a Gooner.
However as Arsenal’s season seems to go from low to low, finding themselves a whopping 30 points behind leaders Manchester City and ten points behind arch-rivals Tottenham. A saving grace for Wenger’s men could be the Europa League, which a win would guarantee automatic entry to the Champions League for next season.
Here’s what the fans think…
Ex Chelsea keeper Petr Cech got his 199th clean sheet on December 16th against Newcastle.
He’s still searching for his 200th.

Hardly top bin that, Cech looking a shadow of the man who was a rock at Chelsea.

@PetrCech are you going to manage to keep your 200th clean sheet or not.

Dad has just made the comment of the year, watching the news and he says “Petr Cech has probably conceded more goals in these last couple of months than he did in his whole Chelsea career”. I can’t cope

This Arsenal team is making Petr Cech look average…his stats after joining that team is awfully depressing

@SkySportsStatto: Petr Cech returns in 1 of 4 changes from the team that started at Wembley – is on his longest run without a PL clean sheet
