Chelsea: Fans delighted with Callum Hudson-Odoi’s new contract

Many Chelsea supporters have been responding to a post on the Blues’ official Twitter account, after the Stamford Bridge natives celebrated Callum Hudson-Odoi penning a new contract.

The teenage winger, who turns 19 on November 7, signed his new deal on Thursday, with the London-born prospect agreeing to a five-year contract worth more than £120,000-a-week (BBC) having handed in a transfer request in January.

Frank Lampard is understood to have assured the forward on his future at Stamford Bridge following the former Chelsea midfielder’s return as manager in the summer, as playing time had been a key issue for Hudson-Odoi under Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian manager, now at Juventus, awarded the Blues’ product 24 outings across all competitions during his sole campaign in West London, but only half were in the starting line-up (TransferMarkt). Sarri also waited until April before handing the two-time England international his first start in the Premier League.

Hudson-Odoi is still waiting for his first outing of the term under Lampard due to an Achilles injury suffered in the closing stages of the 2018/19 campaign.

Chelsea have celebrated the forward’s new contract by sharing a highlight package of his top five moments in blue, including his first-team debut against Newcastle United in the FA Cup, his first senior goal, a brace in an FA Youth Cup decider at Arsenal and his England debut 18 months after winning the Under-17 World Cup.
