Chelsea defender Emerson suffered an injury to his ankle during Italy’s 2-1 win over Finland on Monday night, limping off inside the opening ten minutes to receive treatment from the team’s medical staff.
Blues fans may have been anxiously watching on in fear that their first-choice left-back would be ruled out long-term, though Azzurri boss Roberto Mancini has helped ease those concerns by saying that the 25-year-old’s injury is “nothing serious”, per @TheBlues___
Emerson, who has started all four of Chelsea’s games under Frank Lampard this season, is rapidly becoming a fan favourite (per tweets sourced by Football.London) at Stamford Bridge after impressing for the club during their triumphant Europa League campaign last term.
The ex-Roma man has begun this season promisingly, too, averaging 3.8 tackles and 1.3 clearances per game so far for the west London outfit, as they sit 11th in the Premier League table after four matches.
Here’s how Chelsea fans reacted to the news that their star left-back’s injury is not serious; it’s safe to say they’re fairly relieved.
