Chelsea right-back Reece James is yet to feature for the club this season, after sustaining an injury during the summer whilst on international duty with England U20s.
The 19-year-old is expected to become an influential member of Frank Lampard’s young, new-look squad this term, and is already being earmarked as a potential replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta upon his return from injury, something highlighted by the Metro.
James spent last season on loan with Championship outfit Wigan Athletic, winning the club’s Player of the Year and Goal of the Season awards. He also made the 2018-19 Championship Team of the Season, proving his immense talent and potential in the game, with reports emerging in the Independent even before the summer that the club were eager to promote him into the first-team.
Having so far spent the season working hard in the treatment room, the young defender has now returned to training and is soon expected to be included in Frank Lampard’s first-team squad.
Chelsea’s official Twitter account posted a picture of James running on the training pitch on Wednesday, here’s how some excited Blues fans reacted…
