Chelsea: Fans slam Frank Lampard for bringing on Michy Batshuayi in Valencia draw

Chelsea fans have been left unimpressed with Frank Lampard’s decision to bring on Michy Batshuayi for the injured Tammy Abraham in the exhilarating 2-2 Champions League draw against Valencia on Wednesday.

The Blues’ leading goalscorer sustained a hip injury towards the end of the first half and had to be withdrawn from the game, forcing Lampard to make a substitution.

He opted for Batshuayi, but the 26-year-old was unable to deliver the sort of impact his manager would have hoped for after his goalscoring heroics against Ajax back in October.

Indeed, it was a poor showing from Batshuayi, who could not add to Mateo Kovacic’s first goal for the club and Christian Pulisic’s controversial tap-in.

During his time on the pitch, he was dispossessed on three occasions and caught offside once (via WhoScored), summing up a very underwhelming performance.

In the end, Lampard’s decision to bring Batshuayi on proved to be an unpopular one, with many fans questioning why Olivier Giroud was not brought on instead.
