Frank Lampard has admitted that Chelsea have missed Christian Pulisic over the past few weeks with the American international currently out through injury.
Speaking to Goal, the Blues boss confessed that the former Borussia Dortmund star’s absence has been a blow for Chelsea, and Lampard is unsure when Pulisic will be back in the first-team fold after missing the majority of fixtures in 2020 due to a muscle injury as stats from Transfermarkt show.
When asked about Pulisic’s timeframe for returning to the first-team squad, Lampard said: “I won’t have an answer till we’re back training. Yes, (we miss him) because he’s a quality player and was having a really good patch pre-Christmas. But others have to stand up too. But, of course, we’ll be happy to have him back.”
With Pulisic missing the past four Premier League games for Chelsea, his absence has been noticeable for Lampard’s side, with the Blues only managing one win so far with the American attacker out on the sideline, that result coming at home against Burnley in a 3-0 victory.
Indeed, Chelsea have looked somewhat lacklustre on the creative side in recent weeks without Pulisic, with the Blues averaging few touches and passes in their past four games as they managed in the winger’s last appearance for the west London club against Brighton on New Year’s Day as stats from the Premier League’s official website show.
Pulisic has shown this season to be one of Chelsea’s most valuable attacking and creative outlets, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that only Tammy Abraham has managed more goals and assists in the squad this campaign than the 21-year-old attacker, and his return will be welcomed in the coming weeks.
Has Pulisic been a big miss for Chelsea?
With AS reporting that Pulisic could be back following the upcoming winter break, the former Borussia Dortmund star will be a much-needed spark in the Chelsea side that has been missing an extra creative player over the past few weeks.
