Chelsea: Freezing out Olivier Giroud isn’t good for anybody

Chelsea: Freezing out Olivier Giroud isn’t good for anybody - Chelsea

Following their transfer ban, one would logically think that Chelsea will do their best towards keeping everyone happy at the club.

But, logic isn’t really being used that often these days at a club which is dissolved in controversy, despair and uncertainty.

Instead of assuring their key players to stay, they’re seemingly displeasing them. Among them is Oliver Giroud, who despite his terrific hat-trick against Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League, was benched again their 2-0 loss against Everton at the weekend.

This obviously displeased the French striker, who is now looking for an exit after speaking to RTL and relayed by the Metro. Chelsea are already in the midst of a striking crisis but are worsening the situation by continuing to undermine their best striking option currently. Gonzalo Higuain was brought on to be their star striker in January, yet has completely failed to convince and looks a shadow of the player who thrived so much under Maurizio Sarri while together at Napoli.

The Italian striker’s only scored three goals so far, only against relegation-fodder in Huddersfield Town and Fulham. At least Giroud is rising up to the occasion to keep Chelsea’s UEFA Europa League campaign going strong, having scored 9 goals from 9 Europa League games. He’s much better synchronized with the unit, more clinical in the final third and also brings physicality to Chelsea’s game. Eden Hazard himself even referred to the ex-Arsenal man as the best target man in the world only a few months ago, after all.

Unlike Higuain, Giroud doesn’t get bullied off or outpaced by defenders. He’s much more adept to the Premier League than the newcomer, however, Sarri obviously can’t see through his apparent biasedness. The Italian’s stubbornness will be his end at Chelsea and could result in the club losing a prized squad player in Giroud next season.
