Chelsea have offered a deal to South American, player wants move

Many of the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see the club splash the cash over the course of the summer, in order to make a fist of things in the Champions League.

With the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Tiemoué Bakayoko linked with big moves to Stamford Bridge of late, it’s fair to say excitement amongst the Blues in the bar is palpable.

So, reports from the Times have proved a little underwhelming. They’ve revealed recently-released Manchester City ‘keeper Willy Caballero is interested in a move to west London this summer.

While the punters propping up our bar understand Antonio Conte needs to bring in a backup stopper to replace Asmir Begovic, the idea of seeing the Argentine arrive isn’t overly exciting.

Both Chelsea and Newcastle United are understood to have offered the 35-year-old a deal, with the player said to prefer a move to London. Indeed, the Magpies are even thought to have offered more money, though moving to the capital is still said to be his preference.

Considering how strong Chelsa’s options between the posts have been over the past few years (Petr Cech, Thibaut Courtois and Asmir Begovic), Caballero is barely the most exciting potential arrival.
