Chelsea have made the perfect start under Maurizio Sarri and fans are optimistic in thinking that form can continue to at least get them back into the Champions League.
Fans aren’t yet getting carried away because they know the painful uphill battle ahead of them and Chelsea having been so good in parts last season ended the campaign in a demoralising 5th place.
Although unbeaten, Chelsea do look beatable particularly because of their unpredictable defenders. With the January transfer window on the horizon already, Sarri should be plotting a mega move for a top centre-back like Juve’s Daniele Rugani.
Rugani, (who is valued at £19.8 million on Transfermarkt) was a target for Chelsea during the summer transfer window but in short, the deal wasn’t complete in time and the Blues had to settle without the classy Italian defender.
Now though after Sarri has had time to get to know his defence, it’s clear to see that particularly, David Luiz is a weak-point in the Chelsea set-up and Rugani would be a huge improvement upon the Brazilian based on his potential and performances for the Old Lady.
Considering how good Daniele Rugani has shown he can be, only making 22 league appearances last season is an insult to his ability but considering the options ahead of him at Juventus, that is understood. Chelsea though must see that as an opportunity to prize him away with the temptation of regular football week in, week out.
The Italian is a top centre-back that would add an immense amount of quality to Chelsea’s backline. If they’re serious about improving, Chelsea need to pursue this level of defender.
